An Alumina Sagger or Crucible, commonly referred to as an “alumina Saggar”, is a ceramic container designed for high temperature applications.
Alumina can be found in ceramics, metallurgy, as well as powder processing industries. These protective materials are specifically designed to withstand high temperatures, providing materials with added protection when heating or firing processes are undertaken. With an excellent thermal stability rating that reaches temperatures as high as 1700C (3092degF). They feature a low thermal expansion coefficient, making them resistant to cracking when subjected to extreme temperature fluctuations. Alumina saggars offer excellent chemical resistance, making them the ideal solution for applications requiring the corrosion-proof properties of materials or environments. Thermal shock resistant components can withstand multiple cooling and heating cycles without incurring significant damage.
Alumina saggars are widely employed for firing ceramics, sintering powders, heat treating metals and other processes which require high temperatures, but where safety of product being processed is of utmost importance. Overall, alumina saggars can be seen as suitable containers for high temperature applications requiring high thermal stability, chemical resistance and mechanical durability; all providing protection to material being processed.
